The
Life Church was started in 1953 as the First United Pentecostal Church
of Houma, in the home of the founding pastor, the late Charles
McMichael. After a short time, the services were moved to the School Board office of the Terrebonne Parish.
Land was leased from Southdown Sugars for $100.00 per year. A building was erected and later the land was purchased. The church remained in that location (1504 Main Street) until 1979.
Land was again purchased from Southdown by Pastor M.K. James, at the location of 215 South Hollywood Road. The first service in the new location was held December 16, 1979.
From 1953 until 1965, the church had three pastors. They were Charles McMichael, G.W McKeithen, and Lloyd Lowery. M.K. James and his family came in 1965 and remained as pastor until December 31, 2005. On November 22, 2005, Chad Ducote was elected as pastor. On January 1, 2006, Pastor Ducote assumed the role of lead pastor.
Today, The Life Church is a growing community of believers. In January 2009, The Life Church acquired property at Coteau Rd and Bayou Gardens Blvd to build a new worship complex and daycare. Construction is currently underway and is scheduled to be completed by October 2010. The Life Church story is about people that walk by faith. Prayers are being answered as the church stands upon God's promises! To God be the glory!
Many people from various backgrounds have found a place of belonging and faith at The Life Church. It is the vision of Pastor Chad to welcome all to a deeper life experience with Jesus. If you find yourself with an imperfect past or without purpose and direction, come make The Life Church a part of your future!
