Church History
The Life Church was started in 1953 as the First United Pentecostal Church of Houma, in the home of the founding pastor, the late Charles McMichael.  After a short time, the services were moved to the School Board office of the Terrebonne Parish.

Land was leased from Southdown Sugars for $100.00 per year.  A building was erected and later the land was purchased.  The church remained in that location (1504 Main Street) until 1979.

Land was again purchased from Southdown by Pastor M.K. James, at the location of 215 South Hollywood Road.  The first service in the new location was held December 16, 1979.

From 1953 until 1965, the church had three pastors.  They were Charles McMichael, G.W McKeithen, and Lloyd Lowery. M.K. James and his family came in 1965 and remained as pastor until December 31, 2005.  On November 22, 2005, Chad Ducote was elected as pastor.  On January 1, 2006, Pastor Ducote assumed the role of lead pastor.

Today, The Life Church is a growing community of believers.  In January 2009, The Life Church acquired property at Coteau Rd and Bayou Gardens Blvd to build a new worship complex and daycare. Construction is currently underway and is scheduled to be completed by October 2010. The Life Church story is about people that walk by faith. Prayers are being answered as the church stands upon God's promises! To God be the glory!

Many people from various backgrounds have found a place of belonging and faith at The Life Church.  It is the vision of Pastor Chad to welcome all to a deeper life experience with Jesus.  If  you find yourself with an imperfect past or without purpose and direction, come make The Life Church a part of your future!

What We Believe
In essential beliefs - we have unity.
"There is one Body and one Spirit..there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of us all..."  Ephesians 4:4-6

In non-essential beliefs - we have liberty.
"Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters... Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To his own master he stands or falls... So then each of us will give an account of himself to God... So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God."  Romans 14:1, 4, 12, 22.

In all our beliefs - we show charity.
"...If I hold in my mind not only all human knowledge but also the very secrets of God, and if I have the faith that can move mountains - but have no love, I amount to nothing at all."  1 Corinthians 13:2

THE ESSENTIALS WE BELIEVE:

About God
There is only one God. He is the Creator of heaven and earth, and of all living beings. He has revealed Himself to humanity as the Father (Creator), in the Son (Savior), and as the Holy Ghost (indwelling Spirit).

Genesis 1:1, 1:26, 1:27, 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14 Deuteronomy 6:4

About Jesus Christ
Jesus is the Son of God, He was born of a virgin. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross.  He rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death.  He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

Matthew1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; 14:10-30, Hebrews 4:14,15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14,15; Titus 2:13

About the Holy Spirit
The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is a Salvation experience that empowers every believer. It provides the Christian with power for living, understanding spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right.  As Christians, we seek to live by the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

2Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; Acts2:38; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18

About Water Baptism
Water baptism by immersion in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins fully identifies the believer with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection.

Acts 2:38; Romans 6:4; Colossians 2:12; Galatians 3:27

About the Bible
The Bible is God's Word to us.  It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit.  It is the divine  source of truth. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error.

2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105, 160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5

About Human Beings

People are made in the image of God, to be like Him in character.  People are the supreme object of God's creation.  Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us have been marred by sin. This sin has  separated us from God and causes many problems in life.

Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2

About Salvation

Salvation is God's free gift to us.  We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works.  Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin's penalty.

Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5

About Eternity

We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.

John 3:16; John 14:17; Romans 6:23; Romans 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15; 1 Corinthians 2:7-9

About Holy Communion
Holy Communion is a symbolic remembrance of Christ’s body that was broken and His blood that was shed for the forgiveness of sins.

Luke 22:19-20

What to Expect
Varietythat’s what you’ll find as our guest!  One thing you should expect is a personal, uplifting worship experience.  Every gathering is geared for participation.  We typically worship as we live, with enthusiasm.

Life Class For All Ages
Tuesday evenings include an hour-long LIFE study that is designed to help believers grow in their walk with God.  Life Class take a 2000 year old document known as the Bible and applies it to our present day lives.  Personalized classes divided by age, grade, and interests serve every life stage from infants through senior adults.

Child Care
A nursery is provided for infants and toddlers.  This loving, comfortable atmosphere helps show children at the earliest ages that church is a great place to be!  Childcare also allows parents to worship without distraction.  Special care is taken to thoroughly clean the nursery area as well as a safe environment on a weekly basis.

Children's Worship
Bible-oriented activities are provided for preschool and elementary-age children.  At this level, young children are taught to sing, pray, memorize Scripture and learn important Bible truths.  They are instructed and led in worship at their own levels.  Our Children’s Ministry offers church programs, services, and facilities that are planned with your child in mind; providing them an exciting way to learn about Jesus Christ and worship Him with their whole hearts.

Nexus Student Ministries
Each Tuesday night our Jr High and High School students meet at 7:30 pm for a time of connecting with each other and to a God who loves them!  Each gathering is geared for students to experience dynamic praise & worship, exciting dramas, and creative messages. Students are sure to leave feeling connected to God and His love!

Music and Worship Arts
At The Life Church, you will experience a diversity of musical styles.  Music references in the Bible engages the full range of human emotions and we try to reflect that in our worship.

Whatever the accompaniment; inspired singing is the order of the day!  Any given service may include traditional hymns, hand-clapping gospel, contemporary praise and reverent worshipful choruses.  The Praise Team ministers in our Sunday Worship Celebration.
  • Reverent - Words like "awe", "wonder", and "amazing" are frequent themes in the Psalms
  • Diverse - He and the people used a variety of instruments including strings, horns, even              percussion! (Psalm 150:5)
Ministry Time Prayer
A special time in each worship opportunity is devoted to prayer.  Needs from in and outside our church family are made known. As in the New Testament, specific prayer is offered for the sick.  At times, they will be invited to come forward to be anointed with oil (James 5:13-16). Our prayer team and other believers will lay hands on the sick and pray (Mark 16:18).

Giving
Our church is operated through the tithes and other financial gifts of members. Each gathering, our church family is given an opportunity to bless/support The Life Church.  This is not a time of pressured involvement rather a cheerful celebration of HIS goodness to us.

We believe giving the tithe (the first tenth of income) declares that God comes first.  It recognizes His blessing, expresses faith, and seeks His guidance in every matter in life.

The ministries at The Life Church are supported solely by free-will giving.  However, guest need not feel obligated to give.

Challenging Messages

The high point of our services comes with the preaching of God’s Word, the Bible, and an invitation for hearers to respond. The messages are fervent, inspiring, and practical.

The pastor may close with an invitation for those who want to dedicate their lives to come forward. Those who feel a need to re-commit their lives to Christ or to pray about other concerns are also invited to come. Believers are encouraged to ask for the Holy Spirit to further empower them for Christian service. Everyone is invited to come and pray during the altar service.

Deep emotion and excitement may or may not be demonstrated at the altars in a service, but everyone who calls on God in faith receives something.

If you’ve wondered what our gatherings are like, we invite you to observe and experience God’s joy and peace that defy description. And when you come, come expecting!  Expect to feel God in a way that will uplift you and set you free.  We think you’ll agree that the comfort, help, and strength He gives are better experienced than explained.  Come CELEBRATE “LIFE” with us!
